About Freeniz

Born again, transformed, and powerful is the legend of the phoenix. While according to Chinese culture, the phoenix locates where peace and harmony are. Vision in such metaphors, we provide our members with knowledge and skills not only to equip them to defend themselves and protect their loved ones but also to promote their confidence to achieve inner peace and harmony unto personal transformation and renewal.

We focus on training in Wing Chun Gung-Fu, a close-quarter combat art that originated in southern China and later thrived in Hong Kong. It is well known as the mother art of the legendary Bruce Lee, the foundation of his combat philosophy -- Jeet Kune Do; was made fascinating to the public by the movie franchise Ip Man which was inspired by the real-life story of Hong Kong Wing Chun Great Grandmaster Yip Man; and from an anonymous martial art to art of fame by bringing victory to a young lady against a bandit back in China more than three hundred years ago and has been carrying her name ever since -- Wing Chun. While not known by many, the art specializes in Energy redirection (Soft skills; Yin) and Striking (Hard skills; Yang) integration instead of being just another system of flashy hits and blocks.

We welcome everyone to come and train with us, to discover what Wing Chun really is, and to find out what martial arts are about. We looking forward to seeing you join us in training in the system, unto you enjoy freedom with knowledge and skills. The freedom from being transformed and renewed, like the phoenix, at Freeniz.

The Instructor

Traumatized by an assault incident In his early teens in Hong Kong, Frank started to seek a way to protect himself and look into the realm of martial arts. He started training in Wing Tsun (a branch of Wing Chun in Yip Man’s lineage) under Sifu Yiu-Ming Tam (the founder of Wing Tjun Kung Fu Academy in the UK) for his hand techniques, and ITF Taekwondo under Master Kenny Wu for kicking skills simultaneously in 1993. A decade later, he came across Filipino Martial Arts and learned from Guro Gary Ma in fighting with sticks and daggers. Within a few years, he became a member of Team Hong Kong to fight in the WEKAF(World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation) World Championships 2006. A year after his immigration to the USA, Frank started training under Jeet Kune Do Master the late Richard Bustillo in 2011.

Driven by great curiosity, Frank made brief exposure across various martial arts during his days in Hong Kong: Muay Thai, Boxing, Judo, Systema, Capoeira, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. While during the days when he was trained under Richard Bustillo, Frank developed his boxing skills and further solidify his foundation in other martial arts skills with the knowledge he carried from Hong Kong.

Frank began his martial arts teaching at a children's center in 2016, with Wing Chun as the core of his curriculum and other martial arts skills that Frank possesses as the supplementary. His approach is interpreting Wing Chun in the contemporary context by comparing and juxtaposing it with other martial arts, and connecting its techniques to our daily natural motions, in order to bring out the fullest of the art’s practicality.
